Luca Doro
Agro-ecosystem modeler
Luca has worked as an agro-ecosystem modeling scientist for nearly 20 years. His research experience includes modeling the impact of climate change and cropping systems on soil carbon stock, addressing the impacts of climate change on European agriculture, enhancing adaptation capacity through improvements of climate change impacts modeling, and quantifying the benefits of conservation practices in U.S. cropland.
Background
He holds a Ph.D. in Agrometeorology and Ecophysiology of Agricultural and Forestry Systems, and a M.S. in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies.
Work experience
Luca worked in both Italy and the U.S., collaborated with numerous scientists on European research projects, and provided support to many scientists in the use of simulation models in their research. While in the U.S., he worked at the Blackland Research Center (BREC), part of Texas A&M AgriLife Research. At the BREC, he had the opportunity to work alongside the scientists that created and developed the Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) model and the Agricultural Policy Environmental eXtender (APEX) model. This gave Luca the opportunity to learn the structure and algorithms of the EPIC and APEX models and how to exploit their characteristics and strengths. Luca acquired the ability to manipulate their source code to perfect, improve and expand their potential. He has knowledge in data collection and analysis, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
